Hi, I'm Lisa and  I'm a portrait artist and like to work in water mixable oils and coloured pencil, just not at the same time!

Palette & Pen was the result of my frustration of there not being a local art shop anywhere that I could just pop into when I'd used the last bit of oil in the tube, or needed a slightly different colour pencil.

The turning point came after spending time with several members of my family who were at the end of their lives and hearing their regrets about what they hadn't done or were too afraid to do. Owning an art shop and community space has been a dream of mine for many years and I finally reached a stage where I felt confident enough to make the leap.

I chose to open the shop in Tiverton because it's been my home since the 1980s. I love it here. It's a beautiful town with a great community and a huge amount of artists.

I've selected good quality brands that I've used and enjoy working with, along with some that came from market research as well as some fabulous British independents that just make me happy.

Stock is only available to buy in-store as I cant compete with the large online retailers, and honestly, nothing beats the smell and atmosphere of walking into an art shop and just being amongst the loveliness. You never know, you might find something you didn't even know you needed!
